Staying on Track With Your Goals: How to Review, Reflect, & Adjust (Mid-Year Checkpoint)

Earlier this year, we started with reflection, looking at where we've been before deciding where we want to go next.
This article is Part 2 of the Reflection & Goal Setting Series, a three-part journey designed to help you reflect, set meaningful goals, and stay aligned throughout the year.
If you're just joining the series, I recommend starting with Reflection and Goal Setting: How to Make Your Goals Truly Meaningful.
Setting goals is only the starting point.
In Blog 1, we talked about reflection as the foundation of meaningful goal setting. Now we move into the middle of the process, where life gets busy, motivation shifts, and priorities start to evolve.
This is the part most people skip, but this is also the part where progress is either built...or lost.
In my own life, I’ve noticed something interesting. The goals I actually achieve aren’t the ones I set in January with excitement. They’re the ones I keep revisiting throughout the year.
There have been goals I expected to stay on track with but didn’t. It’s easy to start the year with energy and intention, but life happens! Deadlines shift, priorities change, and motivation naturally dips! This isn’t because discipline was lacking, but because things evolve. Focus shifts, and some goals quietly drift into the background.
The difference between progress and stagnation has always come down to one thing: whether I paused to realign. That’s why regularly reviewing your goals isn’t optional. It’s essential!
Check In Regularly...Don’t Wait for December

Think of your goals like a plant. You don’t water it once and hope it grows. You check it regularly, adjust sunlight, water, and soil as needed. There are two key rhythms that make this easier:
Monthly Goals Check-Ins
What have I completed?
Are my small actions adding up?
Quarterly Goals Reviews
Zoom out and look at the bigger picture
Am I still aligned with what matters most?
Do I need to adjust direction?
These pauses help you see progress, celebrate wins, and notice when something isn’t working, without waiting until the end of the year to find out you have been off track.

I’ve had months where I thought I was “busy” and progressing, until I paused and looked closely. I realized that I was active, but not necessarily aligned.
That’s the power of a simple check-in. It doesn’t judge you. It just shows you the truth sooner.
Pause, Reflect and Ask the Right Questions

Answering these questions honestly builds clarity, focus, and resilience and keeps your goals relevant to your life and priorities. The goal here isn’t perfection. It’s awareness! Awareness is what keeps goals alive instead of abandoned.
Track Your Wins as You Go

Small wins matter more than we think. Not because they are small, but because they build momentum.
Celebrate them. Write them down. Keep a running list of achievements — even the quiet ones no one notices.
Completed a challenging project
Stayed consistent with a habit
Handled pressure better than before
These moments often go unnoticed, but they are proof that progress is happening. Tracking wins does more than boost confidence. It creates momentum that carries you through the rest of the year.
Some of the most meaningful progress I’ve seen, in myself and in others, has never come from big breakthroughs. It came from consistency that doesn’t feel impressive in the moment, but becomes powerful over time.
Adjust and Pivot When Needed
Sometimes, goals need to change. Life changes. Interests shift. And that’s okay. Adjusting isn’t failing, it’s being strategic and realistic.
Use your reviews to ask:
Which goals still align with what I truly want?
Which ones need tweaking?
Which ones are no longer serving me?
Staying rigid often creates frustration, while staying flexible creates progress. This keeps you on track without getting stuck in pressure or perfectionism.
Takeaway: The Middle Matters

Most people think success is about setting goals in January and achieving them in December.
But the real transformation happens in the middle, in the quiet moments where you choose to check in, adjust, and continue.
This is where discipline becomes awareness and awareness becomes growth.
Doing this consistently makes the year feel manageable, builds mental strength, and ensures that December isn’t a frantic scramble to see where you stand.
Remember: it’s not about perfection. It’s about progress, reflection, and staying connected to your purpose.
Reflection Exercise
Before you move on, take one minute to ask yourself:

What goal have I stayed committed to?
Where have I drifted?
What's one adjustment I can make this week?
